It’s unavoidable, with what you put in down there, things stick around. They begin to smell. And it doesn’t have to be that way! Here’s a few of our favorite tips for getting the stink out of your garbage disposal.

Get Rid of That Smell in Your Garbage Disposal
Tip #1: Clean Regularly
This doesn’t mean you have to stick your hand down there and clear it out. You can fill your sink with warm water, add some dish detergent or dish soap, pull out the stopper and turn on the disposal. The warm, soapy water will churn inside your garbage disposal and help clear out any left over debris.
Tip #2: Clean the Flaps
You’d be surprised at how much food gets tossed and splattered onto the underside of the rubber flaps in your sink. Buy a bendable brush that can be turned at a 90 degree angle and used to clean the bottom side of the rubber flaps.
Tip #3: Baking Soda & Vinegar
Remember making that volcano project in 3rd grade? It’s finally going to pay off! Baking soda is a natural deodorizer. Combine with vinegar and you’ve got yourself a deodorizing, foaming, cleaning machine! Let the concoction sit for an hour and then flush through with warm water and voila!
Tip #4: Garbage Disposal Beads
These tiny beads were made for exactly this purpose. Throw one down your disposal, run a little warm water and let the disposal run. The smell in your garbage disposal will dissipate and you’ll be left with a fresh, citrus scent. You can find them at your local grocery or home improvement store.
